Leudal was created after a redivision, in 2007, of 16 village centers.
Leudal has about 37,000 inhabitants and has an area of about 29 km2.
Leudal stretches from the Belgian border at Kessenich to Kessel Eik on the north side.
Heythuysen has been part of this municipality since the creation of Leudal.
Heythuysen is also located on the edge of "het Leudal" with its unique nature, monuments, cycling and walking routes.
Restaurants with inviting terraces can be found in abundance in this area.
Various ponds, created from gravel extraction, and the Meuse offer plenty of opportunities for water recreation.

Het Leudal:
The beautiful nature reserve Het Leudal, where deciduous and coniferous forests are interspersed with heathlands and stream valleys, is ideal for a long walk or bike ride. You will also find the regional museum Sint Elisabethshof with a large model of the area and changing exhibitions.
In the middle of the Leudal is an 18th century waterwheel mill, the Leumolen. In the summer it is still often in use.
Thorn (Thoear) is a town in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is located near the Belgian Kessenich. Before Thorn was merged with the other municipalities of Maasbracht and Heel on 1 January 2007 to form the new municipality of Maasgouw, Thorn itself was a municipality. It is known as the White Town because of its white houses in the center. Thorn is the first Dutch town on the west bank of the Meuse from Maastricht (it received city rights in the 13th century).
